:01
welcome to the worst of the best podcast you wanted the best well they didn't
0:08
freaking make it so here's what you get from Canada
0:13
and New York Ryan and Carl [Applause]
0:23
[Music]

[Music] [Applause]
0:39
all right welcome to the worst of the best podcast I am your host and with me
0:45
today I have a I consider a very special guest his name is Carl and he is the
0:51
well he's the main host the creative mind the genius whatever you want to call it behind the who are these
0:56
podcasts podcast Carl welcome thanks for having me right I don't like that you said I consider him to be a special
1:03
guest you probably don't give a [ __ ] but I think it's a cool gu like assume that other people also think it's pretty cool
1:09
that I'm doing the show please just fake it for me well I've interviewed people on my other podcast you know that I have
1:15
a rocky series podcast I I've interviewed people like Bill KY and Vince dle you know so you know Oscar
1:20
winners no big deal but up the name dropping early out of the
1:26
episode nice thank you so much for that I have actually so a did that okay look I'm blushing this is terrible I am
1:32
gushing a little bit I know you're not supposed to gush when you're talking to your uh people that you enjoy but I'm gushing a little bit because I did
1:39
discover your podcast by accident I was on a podcast group on Facebook and I was
1:44
concerned because I do a lot of music on my podcast I do like music reviews and
1:49
stuff yeah and I was like oh people were going on saying oh you can't do music there's copyrights and stuff and I'm
1:55
like really I I'm a smalltime podcast who's going to come after me for my what you know so anyways they're saying oh I
2:01
listened to a podcast this guy was saying they do like other people's podcast they rip other people's like you know they take clips from podcast they
2:08
do music clips they've done it all I'm like who are who are these guys I kind of want to see what they're you know what they're doing to see if I'm
2:14
anywhere close to what they're kind of doing and it was your podcast and so I'm a purist so I started at the very
2:19
beginning and this was like four months ago and I saw there was like 200 episodes but after the first episode
2:25
Carl I admit right away I was just I was legitimately laughing and I am not an easy guy to make laugh I'm one of those I'm a
2:32
hard cell when it comes to Comedy you're funny and you're good at what you do and so I'm a little bit nervous because
2:38
ironically what you do on your show is you listen to other podcasts and you criticize quite frankly in the humorous
2:45
way and roasting way the good and the bad of their show so this is kind of weirdly metaph for me to have you on my
2:51
show relax I'm on your side today all right so you can relax it's funny I was
2:56
on Chrissy Mayer's show last week and she started off with a couple ad reads and she kind of stumbled through him and
3:01
then she goes I'm sorry I'm nervous doing this in front of you and I get it we're pretty brutal to podcasters it
3:07
makes sense well you are and you're Fair that's the thing and I think in all your criticisms is you're fair I don't think
3:12
you've ever said anything that I've heard that wasn't true in my opinion we exaggerate from time to time I mean I'm
3:18
listen I'm trying to find the funny angle on things but that is true people do things well I I do say what they do
3:23
well now were you podcasting before did you do a podcast before who are these podcasts no who who are these podcast
3:30
was my first uh Endeavor boy you just hit the ground running like what was your experience for I I mean I'm sure
3:37
you maybe mentioned your podcast but after 200 episodes I don't remember every detail of your life I actually don't talk about my personal life on the
3:43
show which is one of the things that I take pride in a lot of people talk a lot about themselves it's like boring all
3:48
right whatever uh no I didn't have any broadcast experience I play in bands all my life and I've been on the radio like
3:55
local radio shows quite a bit to promote shows and albums and things like that so I have that experience but no I didn't
4:02
have any experience with doing a show or running a show and in fact when we first started out Kevin and I did the show
4:08
together we recorded three or four episodes that we never released because we just wanted to see if we could get it to work and we decided the first time
4:15
through probably won't be the best the second time's not great the third time's not working but eventually we we did an
4:21
episode where we both talked afterwards I'm like I think that's good enough right all right yeah we'll start putting these out then and we uh we banked a few
4:28
and then uh then launched it was there any other titles you had for your podcast or was that the first one right away that was the first one right away I
4:35
have a second pick that might have worked as well okay what do you got why are these podcasts why are these
4:41
podcasts is also a good question because that's the majority of all them there's only been a couple that you've legitimately enjoyed why is actually a
4:48
question that I typically ask why does this exist and the answer is uh usually
4:53
narcissism or advertising revenue is usually the answer yeah absolutely well I have no look good news is I have no ad
5:00
reads I probably have Sheamus like numbers I think I'm a little bit more self Weare than Sheamus but it's funny
5:05
when you were ragging on Sheamus's numbers I was like maybe uh maybe he won't come on the show but uh I think a
5:11
little bit more self-aware if you're doing a hundred downloads in a week that's pretty impressive my friend oh
5:16
wow look at me I'm I'm this numbers I should uh I should be getting that anchor money pretty quickly here yeah
5:23
right so as I usually do with uh with the guests if I have a guest host from another podcast never want to make sure
5:28
that I'm a fan of the show I I I don't say that lightly I really am a fan of your show and I want everyone to check you out so yeah don't expect any spikes
5:34
on your show with me but what I like to do is I like to have the guest host pick the topic now I threw at you a couple of
5:41
ideas CU I know you're a music guy so I thought oh maybe he wants to talk about a band or music and then I know you're sick of talking about podcast but I
5:47
haven't done that on my show so I thought maybe you would like to do the worst of the best podcast but you gave
5:52
me a third option which I haven't covered on the show and that is Star Wars the Star Wars films yeah it's funny
5:58
at first I thought music because I'm really into the bands that I'm really into and then I thought who the would
6:04
want to listen to me dive deep into a wean album that came out in 1997 I can't
6:09
imagine there's an audience for that so I'm like all right I'm no there is but they're never gonna find it it's
6:15
ridiculous I like Primus I like ween No Effects No One's Gonna listen to this and I didn't think you would know what I
6:21
was talking about so I think it's a little bit more mainstream people can relate to because if we just talked about podcasts chances are we're talking
6:27
about shows no one's ever heard which is your show but that's your show that's exactly right but what I do is I bring
6:33
on clips and I introduce it and I break it down this is more of like passing oh this show was good this show wasn't good
6:38
so I thought why don't pick a topic that everyone knows everyone's seen these movies they all have their own opinions
6:44
on it thought it would make more sense I'm a huge Star Wars fan going back to uh you know obviously the original
6:50
trilogy so I thought that'd be a fun one agreed okay no I'm a Star Wars fan 2o not a Fanatic in the sense I don't own
6:56
any books I don't have any Comics I don't have any plush toys or anything like that I have a couple puzzles if
7:01
that counts same here I I like the movies I'm not as big of a fan as I was
7:06
when I was a little kid because it is made for little kids but but I enjoy it just the same how old are you if you
7:13
don't mind saying I'm 42 okay I'm 44 okay so we were raised the same that
7:19
same atmosphere of the Star Wars when it was in Zenith okay good memory what was the first thing you you know about the
7:26
films as a child well I can remember distinct when Return of the Jedi came
7:31
out I remember waiting in line at the movie theater to go see that and I had my little action figures and I we were
7:37
waiting out there for two hours for the movie and we just stood outside in this huge line I don't think that type of
7:42
thing exists anymore thank God that would probably be my earliest memory okay that's that's a good memory mine
7:48
mine was actually I did see Empire I was young I was five almost six but I saw Empire uh Strikes Back in the theaters
7:55
and my first memory though of Star Wars was actually the toys I remember my friend having the toys I was just like
8:01
seeing those toys as a kid even as a kid back then I knew that that was really special there was something special
8:07
different about these toys and you you had to be rich so I never owned One Star Wars toy not not ever my friends had
8:13
them a couple friends had them and my first film I saw was Empire in the theater and I think it might have been
8:18
the first Star Wars film I saw was Empire and I'll just never forget the Darth Vader scene with at the the dinner
8:25
table Darth at the dinner table he stops Han Solo a gunshot I remember being a young kid thinking okay well that's it
8:32
you can't kill this guy and that was my first yeah that was my first movie experience like you can't kill this guy with a gun how are you going to deal with this guy that's it's pretty badass
8:38
movie on fire Starks back I remember seeing the uh original A New Hope in a
8:44
drive-in but barely I was very very young sure when we did that but there was some special screening they had at a
8:50
drive-in theater the action figures I know what you mean they were really cool and your buddy had the money and falcon
8:56
or you know he had the adats or something but GI Jo's were so much better because you could move all their
9:02
limbs and their knees and everything like that I don't know GI Jo's were better action figures Star Wars were but
9:08
that's not what this is about it can be let's let CH let's change of topic GI Joe one of the things I hate is tangents
9:14
on podcast right now I gotta write that down tangents Roger I should explain for
9:21
I probably have a first a few first-time listeners because of because of your audience so I will say what we do on the
9:26
show is we don't pick the best it's very easy to say hey Star Wars is the best or gi. Joe is the best or Weezer is the
9:32
best or whatever or wean sorry is it wean or Weezer I can't remember who did you say we I don't know who they are
9:37
that's terrible see I told you that's why I didn't choose that that wouldn't suck that's fair so what we do is we
9:44
pick the best of list from bands artists films franchises but every list no matter what the list is we're going to
9:50
have a pick that independent of each other that we think is the worst of that best and so Star Wars how that works is
9:55
you would have to be living under a rock pulp culturally to to consider Star Wars not one of the best franchises ever made
10:01
whether you like it or not it what it's done financially worldwide influence theme parks books merchandise is there a
10:09
franchise bigger than Star Wars you could maybe argue Harry Potter or some
10:14
of these more modern ones but as far as the longevity goes starting in the late 70s and still going strong today I don't
10:20
I don't know that you could find another one okay so that's what we're doing so what we do is we're going to pick the worst film from this nine film franchise
10:28
and Carl used said you didn't want to do the two Standalone films let's just touch on them briefly what were your overall thoughts on solo and uh Rogue I
10:36
thought Rogue one is one of the best Star Wars films it's made for adults it
10:42
was fun it was good there were some hokey things in there but the fact that a spoiler everyone dies in the end was
10:49
uh was awesome it wasn't it wasn't star wars-esque and I was surprised Disney put that out because soon as Disney
10:55
bought lucas films and the rights of Star Wars I was very concerned ered about it being disneyfied and that's why
11:01
Rogue one I think people were excited about that movie solo is just a fun R
11:07
it's not a good movie but if you go in there with low expectations I had the lowest expectations I didn't go see it
11:12
in the theater I waited till it came out and I could stream it and I thought it was fun I I've watched it once you know
11:18
I've watched it once as well I saw it in Guam I think I'm in the Navy and we were did a port visit in Guam and it was in
11:23
subtitles but still in English but the movie itself was in subtitles same ideaa it's like I got nothing else to do in Guam so I
11:29
go soul but like you had low expectations I left thinking oh you know I wouldn't mind seeing the part two to this I kind of wanted to see more of the
11:35
story it's too bad it didn't do well because I think it still could have had a fun story to tell it did so poorly
11:41
that they put all the other projects on hold they were GNA do you and McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi which would be awesome
11:48
because you and McGregor's great as Obi-Wan that got put on hold there were some other projects too I can't remember what they were but yeah that movie
11:55
tanked so bad that Disney was like oh [ __ ] we can't just keep popping these out every year people to go to this we
12:01
got to take our tie with it now I kind of echo your feelings about Rogue one and I know Rogue one is so well loved by
12:07
a lot of people I maybe because of its more mature nature but the thing that threw me off the most about it was right
12:12
at the very beginning I forget the guy's name I apologize um Latino actor we
12:17
weren't even GNA talk about this I don't know I didn't do any research on it I don't know either he shot that guy in the alley remember and that threw me off
12:24
I was like wait a minute who's this guy did he just murder somebody so I was thrown off by his character the whole movie I don't know why but it put me on
12:30
a on a track I was like I don't know if I like these characters so when they died at the end I was like good he's a murderer I don't know that's true the
12:36
character development in that movie was not good I didn't care that's probably why they killed everyone off because you didn't really care about any of the
12:42
people no but apparently they're doing a prequel about that guy so good another Star Wars prequel just what everybody
12:47
wants oh yeah we should make it known if you're listening to this episode because you're a Star Wars fanatic you think you're G to learn anything new from us
12:53
is highly unlikely yeah also I want to point out to you because you said you want to have some new listeners based on
12:58
me being on the show you should treat you should treat every episode as if someone's listening for the first time I agree that's another little tip from a
13:05
podcast or to a podcast appreciate that any tips you want to throw my way as we're going to say hey Ryan maybe you should I know I haven't held back so so
13:13
far so don't worry about that okay all right all right so uh New Hope and
13:18
originally when it came out it was just called Star Wars it wasn't retitled the New Hope until a sequels made and what
13:24
I've done here uh Carl and listeners is I've inflated with the today's ticket
13:29
prices for these for the box office to indicate just how big these films are so the if these tickets were sold today it
13:36
gives you an idea of how much box office draw these films would be so New Hope came out in 1977 or or Star Wars only
13:42
had a budget of today's budget of $45 million and it made 3.1 billion uh
13:48
International too or is that yeah worldwide worldwide yeah and you gotta think Lucas had directed what American
13:55
Graffiti that t was not yeah he was not like a big shot guy uh Harrison Ford was
14:02
an unknown at the time ell Guinness was probably the only guy in there who's been in other movies that people knew about it was not a big budget movie they
14:09
took a chance they took a chance on that one and some of the early edits and early cuts of it were were terrible yeah
14:15
I've seen some of the footage of that where this was the original scene I was like oh they put a lot of work in the
14:21
edit room to make this a good movie right yeah it's an interesting first film because it the if you watch it
14:29
knowing that Luke and Leia are brother and sister is kind of weird I don't think they had that figured out at the time no they didn't I don't think they
14:35
did I think that's that's my non fanatic theory that I don't think George really had an idea that they brother and sister
14:41
till part two part two is even weirder though in what way that's where they kiss well I know but no no they kiss in
14:47
part one didn't they they kiss on ho and she does it to make Han jealous that's
14:53
right listen I don't want to get too deep into this I already sound like a nerd too late too late
15:00
well we got to say something that's correct okay so yeah overall uh overall this movie it's the original it's the OG
15:07
and I'm Blown Away by how much it made when I did the uh the adjustment for inflation it's this third or fourth
15:13
highest grossy movie of all time I think gone with the windows number one I can't remember what the other ones are so it still stands today as the for ticket
15:20
sales the biggest one of the top five movies of all time well let's talk about why it was so groundbreaking there were
15:26
two main things and this movie is phenomenal there's two two main reasons why Star Wars took off the way that it
15:31
did one is the special effects yeah the special effects at this time in 1977
15:37
there were no space movies compare this to other movies that were coming out around that time there were no movies
15:42
where spaceships were flying around looking realistic blowing each other up the special effects were outstanding the
15:49
other part was the character development of this movie I think it's overlooked
15:54
and I think all the other Star Wars movies they don't spend a lot of time on this and that's where they kind of don't do as as good a job is for some reason
16:01
you really care about Luke and Leia and Han and chewy to some degree and the
16:07
stupid sarcastic droids you actually care about these people and their plight and their mission because it's this old
16:14
western style of story arc where it's the guy that should have no chance of
16:19
becoming the hero becoming the hero and you know everything about it is gets you
16:25
invested in who these people are and you're rooting for them that becomes important when we started talking about
16:30
the prequels and the movies that came out more recently it's like you need to care about the characters and want them
16:37
to succeed oh well said you ever play role playing games on like the Nintendo or the Genesis or whatever and I have
16:43
not really I defin have not done that no oh okay well that's me nerding out a little bit but it's always the it's
16:49
always the farmer the farmer kid that saves the world or saves the planet or whatever it is and that's kind of like I
16:55
some ways I think the original Star Wars or luk Skywalkers that that's the original farm boy who becomes like the
17:00
savior of the Galaxy so like you're saying there that character development is um I think yeah it's definitely very
17:06
unique in some ways it overshadows what follows well we're going to get into
17:11
Empire if you're ready to go to Empire sure okay what I find interesting though there's a huge box office and I had to
17:17
double check my numbers uh there's a huge box office drop with Empire so Empire came out three years later it had a twice the
17:24
budget of 100 million in today's money it still made 1.7 billion but it made half of what Star Wars original made are
17:31
you sure about that I double checked now please in the comments below everyone I'm sure I'll get attacked and that's on
17:36
me I double checked it was 558 million of 1980 money so yeah all right we have
17:42
a policy on WP and that is so I'm just gonna assume that you're
17:48
wrong and we're just we're just gonna move along because Empire Strikes Back is a
17:54
masterpiece it is an amazing movie I mean look at the acting isn't great so
18:00
let's let's just get past that all right we'll get past the acting but in order to follow up the original Star Wars and
18:06
come out with a movie that's going to be even better than that movie was Quite a
18:11
feat at the time right and Lucas made a really smart move he brought in a
18:17
co-writer I can't think of the guy's name zamus or something like that uh Lawrence casden oh maybe that's what it
18:22
is yeah see if you're a Star Wars you're like pissed off at us right now you can't listen to us but that was a smart
18:29
move because Lucas had a vision but he wasn't the best with writing dialogue he
18:34
wasn't the best with plot twists and and how to create a compelling story and Empire Strikes Back was definitely just
18:41
the story arc and everything about it was the different than Star Wars and just brought you even more involved with
18:48
the characters and obviously it ends on a cliffhanger and things are not going well for Our Heroes it's a perfect movie
18:56
number two I agree I I will honestly say no no hot takes here Empire is the best of all the Star Wars films it has the
19:04
darker Edge the bad guys are winning it's a true middle act so even though it's a it there's an ending to the film
19:10
the story is really not over it's it's one of those early sequels in the 80s where we were writing movies with the
19:16
intention of we are going to have a third film whether you like it or not this this movie is going to have more this we have more to tell and I don't
19:22
think movies were doing it back then like that Jaws was never meant to have a Jaws 2 or a Jaws 3D or that's what I
19:28
mean like they had sequels because they were successful at the box office but this was the one of the first films was
19:33
like no now we've got a real story to tell yes for sure and of course there's the big reveal with Luke is the son of
19:42
Darth Vader and we didn't even talk about how Darth Vader was maybe the best movie villain ever when Star Wars came
19:47
out that was another thing that made that movie is you have this movie villain that's awesome and the guy's
19:52
badass he murders people who work for him you know he's he's just so badass
19:58
now you find out this big reveal oh Luke is the hero that was made to be the hero
20:04
this is his father people are AG don't appreciate that because we've always known that our entire lives it's no
20:10
spoiler anymore but at the time that was a big deal that that happened there's actually a clip on YouTube uh where you
20:18
can actually uh somehow someone got an early audio recording or Andor video recording I of uh the reveal of Luke I'm
20:25
your father no I am your father whatever the Mandela uh quote is I can't remember now it's been changed yeah there's an
20:31
audience reaction it's pretty cool to watch it's on YouTube and to get a real live re like oh my goodness that kind of
20:36
that reveal what I also like about of course about Empire yeah is that the dark the dark Edge to it the character
20:43
development the heroes aren't winning Luke gets his arm cut off the theme that continues from part one the limbs
20:50
everyone Lo like people get limbs chopped off I think in every film is that a have you oh yeah that's a good
20:55
point I never thought of that I don't know what it is about George Lucas and limbs but he always has arms getting chopped off yeah so that was my first
21:02
experience of Star Wars in the big screen and Return of the Jedi comes out in 83 and they lowered the budget on
21:09
this one funny enough it actually was 77 million compared to 100 million on on Empire and it made even less again $1.1
21:16
billion which is weird because usually if the movie previous is well-received both critically and commercially the
21:23
people will come to I bet you return had a huge opening weekend but I think word
21:28
wealth Word of Mouth may have diminished some of the returns over the following weekend so the 1.1 billion is nothing to
21:33
laugh at with a $77 million budget are you talking about all time though for these box offices okay so these are
21:40
adjusted for inflation reboots and stuff no but but obviously they put out the special editions in the theaters later
21:46
are you including that in this as well yeah and I yes I am and they didn't make that much more it was like 150 to 200
21:53
million some of the re-releases but yes this is overall their they run in the theater whatever Edition that could be
21:59
skewing this too if we were looking at these numbers in 1985 they might all be very similar to each other but now over
22:05
time the original Star Wars has gotten a lot more box office just for various
22:11
reasons maybe I don't know I'm just throwing it out there I don't know that could be part of the numbers yeah yeah so Return of the Jedi is obviously
22:18
weaker than Empire Strikes Back the major flaw that everybody knows about
22:24
are the teddy bears and the fact that the teddy bears Sav the day it kind of cheapens the whole thing because you
22:30
have this guy with the force going up against this Empire was so powerful and
22:36
you had Darth Vader and you had all of their spaceships and a new death star
22:42
and now these stupid Ewoks save the day and it still a great movie I'm hearing
22:48
myself back on your end I think I I don't know if it's I'm talking too hot in the mic did that just start happening
22:53
like last uh if you want I can I can leave and come back in yeah back all
22:59
right well yeah welcome back appreciate that hopefully that works um imagine if you didn't come back that'd be kind of
23:04
awkward yeah that would be hilarious I'm like this show sucks I'm out of here well maybe it does but I I appreciate
23:10
you coming back all the same funny if I purposely sabotaged your audio and then just never came back oh my gosh okay I
23:17
totally agree about the teddy bears my understanding about the Ewoks is they were supposed to be uh
23:23
Wookies yes I did hear that and then they changed it and I think it had to do with merchandising right
23:29
Oh I thought it was they couldn't find enough tall people okay and they had more little people I guess they they got
23:34
more kid it was easier to find kids and little people than it was to find seven they could just wait for the NBA to be
23:39
off seon to shoot those scenes I guess not oh man I always assumed I did hear
23:45
the the rumor about it was supposed to be Wookies but I always assumed that because I was a little kid at the time
23:52
Ewoks were everywhere they were toys everywhere they became a cartoon series it was like it seemed seemed like it was
23:59
all marketing and Merchandising from the very beginning when they wrote those characters into the movie I think when
24:04
you watch the sequences of the Ewoks and their battle if you were to replace all that fighting with the wookies then it
24:10
makes sense okay the the damage that the Ewoks did doesn't make sense that they were able to they're so battle hardened
24:17
but had the wookies been doing that kind of fighting you would have been like oh that's believable the wookies can take on Storm Troopers I don't know they were
24:22
like ganging up on Stormtroopers and jumping on top of their heads and stuff it seemed like it would be how Teddy be
24:28
would fight sure I don't know I could be wrong the frustrating thing about return for me other than the Ewoks is the
24:35
beginning sequence was so amazing with Luke coming in as a dark Jedi wearing the black robes and even as a young kid
24:42
I geeked out I was like oh he's like he's totally embraced the force he's coming in totally confident and battle
24:49
hardened and his face is all mucked up and he's like older and wiser looking and then he then he loses the black
24:55
robes for the rest of the movie I'm like ah that was just like a or you know a disguise to full Jabba and I was like I
25:02
wish they kind of explored him tampering a little bit with the dark side before meeting his father I will say the thing
25:08
that's great about the movie is it introduced something that many Star Wars movies have done since then and probably
25:13
other movies as well the ending battle sequence was three battles in one you
25:19
had the spaceship battle going out outside of the Death Star to destroy the Death Star you had Luke versus Vader in
25:26
the sword fight on the spaceship and then you had the gun battle going on on the ground on the moon where they were
25:32
trying to shut down the force field and it seems like every St Wars movie has that now right where there's three
25:38
battles throwing on at once and they all depend on each other and it's always a last minute oh we saved this thing no
25:43
now we can do this thing it seems like all hope is lost and but to think about them doing that 1983 and the way they
25:50
pull that off is really impressive it's probably the most impressive thing of the original series is the very end
25:56
battle scene of now it gets a little cheesy with you know pulling his dad out and you know you were right tell your
26:02
sister you were right that's like lame but whatever they had out the series some way right why do they have to get a
26:07
guy that looks so terrible and when they revealed that helmet I was like o even as a kid I was like that's Darth Vader
26:12
is they got a a guy with the bloated face it looked like his face had been underwater too long well he didn't look
26:18
like Hayden Christensen that's for sure yeah talk about film continuity that's a big film film flub there wish they had
26:25
that one back okay so so the film ends in ' 83
26:30
and I remember being a kid and hearing about the Clone Wars I think the clone wars were mentioned at least once in the
26:36
film franchise I yeah Obie brings it up I think the in the first Star Wars film yes he says I fought with your father in
26:42
The Clone Wars and so there was this this kind of like mysterious oh there's a clone wars the Stormtroopers were like
26:48
used to be good and this is like old pre- internet talk this is just stuff you your buddies would talk about or glean from books or whatever and so we
26:55
knew that there was this prequel thing that rolling around in George's mind and as we got older as I got older as you
27:01
got older and we're like when are these films going to be made you know you know George is not getting any younger why
27:06
are we taking so long to tell this story and so when it was announced I think it was 97 or something that film had
27:12
started for the prequels me like everybody else I was extremely extremely excited with the
27:19
idea that we were going to see the Genesis of the Stormtroopers of Darth Vader of young Obi-Wan Kenobi what could
27:26
possibly go wrong I was opening night I was also very excited for The Phantom Menace very low budget by the way $15
27:33
million and it made a one.5 billion yeah I'm not surprised the budget was low because it's all a cartoon it was all
27:40
really shitty CGI and it's sad because the original series used a lot of clation and animation and models they
27:47
really had to do it before computers and they pulled it off somehow these movies look worse you got Jar Jar Binks Jar Jar
27:54
Binks looks worse than Pete's Dragon from 19 79 it's like it's so cheesy with
28:00
the cartoons that are in the the movie I remember going to see that and my brother who's a huge Star Wars fan him
28:06
and I we walk out of the theater and I look at him I'm just like oh man what
28:12
did they do right I was so disappointed my brother still had adrenaline he's like no it was pretty good it's pretty
28:17
good obviously he's come around realizing it's it's a pile of crap this movie sucked because first off the
28:23
little kid who plays Anakin Skywalker is the world's worst actor and the dialogue socks everything but they spend an hour
28:30
on tattooing this desert Planet doing just about nothing like we're following
28:35
these people around and it all builds up to this pod race it's so boring that whole section of it I'm like holy [ __ ]
28:42
this should have been edited down to 15 minutes let's get this kid off of this planet let's move on with the story and
28:49
it just took forever no I totally agree in fact I have a a quick treatment I I'll uh entertain it with you if you
28:55
don't mind really quick for that trilogy I think they should have done taking the boy from the planet getting him to the
29:01
Jedi Council or to the school or whatever that should have been 15 minutes grab grab the boy we've got him
29:08
he's met Yoda I sense the dark side in this kid and then part one would have
29:14
been like Hogwart school it would have been watching him Montage train with the Jedi can you imagine if we actually got
29:20
to see Jedi classes what a missed opportunity yeah yeah I totally agree because the whole thing about the
29:26
original Star Wars was we used to have all these Jedi and now you're the last
29:31
one and you got you're our only hope and you got to do this for us and this idea that oh now we can see them in action
29:38
what are they actually doing to control the Galaxy and keep order so you could have had that you could have had them
29:44
going out on missions and different issues to come up there was very little of that I mean yeah I think Yoda goes
29:49
off I can't remember which movie it is I totally agree with the mission because they could have ended part one with him
29:54
gra so Anakin being like 18 years old graduating uh with his with his Jedi Master and they go on a mission and that
30:01
mission could have been hunting down and tracking down Darth Maul that would have been perfect Darth Maul's causing chaos
30:07
they're given the order go take care of Darth Maul and that's the end of part one then part two can still be the Clone Wars the first half of part two is the
30:15
Clone Wars the second half is Anakin fall into the dark side completely after the Clone War and then they have that
30:22
fight so that's actually the end of part two part three would should have been this is this is as geeky as get okay
30:28
part three this was my title for it the rise of Vader and part three would have been finally we get to see why is this
30:36
guy so feared why is he so dangerous what what kind of chaos did he caused that the rebellions even formed what
30:41
they formed we get to see kind of his Mayhem that he creates and at the end of
30:47
part three because it leads into a new hope the end of part three would have been Luke as an eight or nyear old boy
30:52
he's uh on the farm with his uncle and he's working out the dusty field the wind blows and he covers his eyes like
30:58
this or you wipes his eyes and he sees this shadowy figure and it's it's Obie looking over and he kind of rubs his
31:04
eyes again and the the GU is gone and then that's it cue the credits we know that he's being watched by Obie and then
31:10
the next movie would have been a new hope that would have been better continuity I agree with you wow you have it all figured out I want to back up on
31:16
one thing because I do want to point this out and I we don't have to spend a lot of time on the uh prequels they're terrible Darth Maul was another missed
31:23
opportunity everyone was geeked about this guy he was a badass looking devil character oh and then they made up the
31:30
word Sith in these things which never existed they keep making up [ __ ] about the forest in every movie like it does
31:35
new things and then now it's in your bloodstream and now all of a sudden you have siths versus Jedi like that was
31:40
never whatever so you have Darth Maul who has I think like seven lines in the whole movie of even that no character
31:46
development right so this is the problem with the prequels is that you know what these people are going to become the
31:52
only person you even care about is really Obi-Wan because you already like Obi-Wan and and McGregor does a great
31:58
job with that character but you don't care about anybody else and Darth Maul could have been like that villain that
32:04
you're like you said like build up this villain and have him be a badass instead they just chop him in half before he has
32:10
three lines and it's like all right well there goes that what what's next okay yeah I think that's probably the
32:16
frustrating thing about the Phantom men overall is that they had some great ideas that weren't executed or they weren't dragged here's an opportunity to
32:22
drag something out I know the old say no leave on a high note or want Wan any more a little bit but they gave us such
32:27
a great character with such a little screen time it was a waste wasted opportunity absolutely and again Lucas
32:33
he's terrible at dialogue and the story where we got into the galactic Senate I
32:39
don't know if that's what it's called but it was way too much politics and way too much I'm watching a filibuster in
32:44
real time like who cares like we should be shooting each other in space in our spaceships that's what this movie
32:51
franchise as it's amazing that kids even stayed awake during some of those those
32:56
Galactic meetings is like holy smoke I'm I'm an full grown adult I'm kind of what are we doing spices I'm not sure what's
33:02
happening here trade routs like what are we talking about I was I know it got a little too up its own ass all right so
33:08
then episode two can I move the show along now you mind no do it go ahead episode two I will sum up very quickly
33:15
for us both okay you have the world's worst actor in Hayden Christensen and
33:20
poor Natalie Portman who had to try to work off of him were trying to show their romance blossoming and it is so
33:28
poorly executed Natalie Portman who's like the hottest chick in these movies would be attracted to this guy in any
33:35
way he's such a raging [ __ ] he has no redeeming qualities and the whole time
33:40
you're watching these two in their little love affair it's just like this is stupid this doesn't even make sense this guy's just a douchebag why does she
33:47
like this guy what's with the little rat tail the rat tail that he has on the side of his head it's terrible
33:53
everything about Hayden Christensen is so poorly executed he a terrible actor this is a major Studio
34:01
this is a major film I don't work in this industry obviously but I wonder why so hard just to find someone that can
34:07
act well I think part of it is and you know this the director has a lot to do with the acting performance that they
34:13
get these movies were poorly directed they're poorly acted poorly written and poorly directed know that's a good point
34:19
so I guess we give credit to I mean you're right you look at somebody like quent Tarantino and what he pulls out of
34:25
his actors I don't know if you're a quent Tarantino fan Jud Vol is not a good actor and we all loved him in potion that guy sucks yeah but it's
34:32
interesting I always feel this way about sports sometimes how much of it is the player and how much of it is the coach
34:37
so are we given enough credit to who are we given credit to sometimes in these uh in these victories because you would
34:43
just think a good player is a good player good actor is a good actor no matter what they're given but I guess the director does have that PLL I guess
34:48
editing too editors and what have you so yeah well so that's where again you and
34:54
McGregor is The Shining Light in all of these prequels because he actually pulls
34:59
it off despite having nothing to work with around him that's true and is not an easy gig that he has to make these
35:07
movies interesting at all he does a pretty good job with it agreed okay so I think we're uh ready to move on to uh
35:13
Revenge of the Sith I think this one is generally oh I should say sorry yeah attack of the Clones big drop off from
35:21
uh from Phantom so it only made eight inflated it only made 887 did not break the billion dollar mark it is the lowest
35:27
grossing Star Wars film of 09 by a by 2 to 400 million what destroyed that film was a
35:34
phant of Menace because nobody cared about it now they're like oh this new franchise sucks so they lost a lot of
35:41
people with that first movie yeah and I think that will play into the uh the newer Trilogy as well they did make one
35:47
good decision they're like people hate jar jar picks let's get him out of the movie and jar is just like I'm not gonna
35:53
go on the mission this time and I was like all right good good idea all right so renge of the Sith comes out it did
36:00
rebound a little bit I think most people kind of agree it's the best of the three because it went back to that dark side
36:05
ends on a dark note Anakin getting injured in that fire sequence it's brutal watching somebody get burnt alive
36:12
it's pretty intense it was the first one to have a PG-13 rating I think because of that that end sequence was great the
36:19
movie sucks but it is the best of the three to say it's the best of those
36:25
movies not a compliment sure that's fair not even at the slightest and it made
36:31
1.1 billion so it did re I think a lot of people were just curious to see how Vader would be masked because we saw in
36:37
the trailer the teaser trailer that we were going to see Vader and his full outfit so I think a lot of people came
36:42
this is why I left the theater disappointed almost more disappointed because I was like oh he did get but we didn't see him do anything right and
36:50
that's why Rogue one was awesome because now here's Vader before we were introduced to Vader we start to see you
36:55
know some of the cool [ __ ] that he's up to yeah and that was another Miss opportunity so overall the
37:01
prequels some good ideas some interesting sequences but a lot of missed opportunities that we can't go
37:08
back to you know if you've never seen Star Wars the question is you just start at one and go through nine and the
37:13
answer is always never watch one two and three never ever do it if you were
37:18
introduced to Star Wars you said start at number one would you watch the other eight movies I wouldn't but people have
37:23
though there are there are people in their 18 1920 year- olds who were raised
37:29
watching these in order that's stupid you should never do that that's a bad decision right there
37:36
all right so now let's Jump Ahead a little bit 2015's Force awakens $278 million budget and it uh shot out the
37:44
gate with a 2.2 billion box office so I was skeptical obviously after seeing the
37:50
prequels and seeing that Disney had taken over the franchise I wasn't sure so I didn't have high expectations and I
37:56
think that's a really important thing with all entertainment that you go to see depending on your expectations you
38:01
might think something that's not very good was pretty good I thoroughly enjoyed this movie I thought that they
38:07
pulled off what was very difficult to do which was breathing life back into Star Wars and rebooting it the way that we
38:15
remembered now the way they did it was by stealing the entire storyline of
38:20
episode 4 they just said that worked let's just do that again so it's the
38:26
exact same storyline but the thing that they did with that that was good is they
38:31
got you back invested in the characters the prequels I never cared about any of the characters I did not give a [ __ ] and
38:38
that was the whole thing about the Original Series so then episode seven they introduced Ry and Finn and kylo Ren
38:45
and Po and all of a sudden you're like okay I can get behind these people I'm
38:51
interested they did a nice job with the character development of Ray you're sitting there at the end of the movie
38:56
going I'm for these people I want them to win I think for part one of a Trilogy yes it's a very strong opener uh it
39:04
looks good it's sounds good the costumes the the CGI the JJ Abrams crushed it you
39:11
want to talk about directing being very important J.J Abrams I think he wrote and directed it right yes yeah he killed
39:16
it it's set up for some amazing storylines it didn't quite come out for the other two films I.E Finn the idea
39:24
that a stormtrooper goes Rogue what a great idea don't hold that against this movie because Ryan Johnson is that the
39:31
guy's name who wrote episode a he's the one who it all up this was not JJ's fault okay we'll get episode seven was
39:36
good okay I agree with you I agree with you they set it up so that the next two could be outstanding Ray I was neutral
39:44
about I was partly because she's a female protagonist and I admit there's a part of Me Maybe the old misogynist a
39:49
part of me watching movies for decades having the male like the Luke Skywalkers her and kylo ren Adam Driver they both
39:57
their characters as each movie progress I end up liking more and more so retroactively watching part or part
40:02
seven again I like the ray character I think she's fantastic I think she did a great job in it I didn't mind having a
40:08
female lead on it I thought that she played it well especially like meeting BBA and it was endearing my problem with
40:16
Ray throughout the rest of the series is that she's always crying every scene she's like te eyed like all right man up
40:23
you're the star of this let's go what are you doing fair enough did she go back and watch any scene and she's
40:30
like crying is that why they hired her cuz she can cry maybe yeah the killing of Han Sola was uh yeah it was pretty it
40:37
was tough to like oh that was that's a big character of my childhood just killed so ha Hazard Le from his son that
40:42
was a good moment there's a lot of good moments in that overall probably you know if it wasn't for nostalgic purposes
40:49
you could say that at this point the force awakens is the best of the films I think almost like if you were to watch
40:55
these completely out of the womb not ever seen them before I wonder how many people would like the force awakens the most if you watch these in chronological
41:01
order well the force awakens has that JJ Abrams I never cared about Star Trek but when J.J Abrams rebooted that I was like
41:07
oh these are good movies yeah because of the pace of them and the force awakens is very different as far as the pace we
41:14
said Empire was the best of the original series Empire is boring as [ __ ] compared
41:19
to force awak as it's just go go go go scene scene scene and just [ __ ] happening all the time you don't even
41:25
get a chance to just take a break it's just from the beginning to the end it's go time which I'll give it credit for it
41:30
it is entertaining so the next one came out 2017 The Last Jedi this one divided
41:36
audiences and critics made 1.4 billion so it almost made what's the math on
41:42
that like 500 million less than the force awakens I think it's easy to say
41:47
it's the worst there's a lot to like in this film I think I think there's a lot of visual that I really like I that Red
41:53
Throne Room fight was a good fight sequence the of the whole movie for sure that part awesome the Imperial guards
41:59
like be badass they're like ninjas it was awesome was so stupid though this guy's
42:05
all powerful and all knowing and he allows him to be stabbed by his own lightsaber just like that like come on
42:11
dude how was that that's so poorly written that's such a copout when you're writing a movie to build up this
42:17
character like what is this guy's backstory what's he gonna be like and then he just gets killed in the like for no reason so easily like oh okay well
42:25
guess none of that mattered it was weird and I I wonder why Ryan Johnson my
42:30
understanding was he was given free reign like you would think there would be some sort of like know we have an end
42:35
goal in mine here like we want to give you creative you ever you watch the Harry Potter films of course I don't know if you enjoyed them okay well I
42:42
forget the guy's name but he's this Mexican uh director Alfonso or something but he's got a very unique visual style
42:49
and that's what the Harry Potter films did they have an overall Arc but each director added their own how how they
42:55
film films but they didn't stray from the story and I don't know why they wor though right I mean so Harry Potter
43:02
already did have an end or or was going to yeah fair enough this one they didn't have it written you think they'd have an
43:08
overall Arc that there's still the end game that we're going to so it's weird like Luke throws a lightsaber over his shoulder everything gets changed the
43:14
scripts get burnt ah snoke dies it's almost like it's almost like Ryan Johnson in his own way kind of just told
43:21
uh Star Wars fans haha screw you that's that's kind of why I did enjoy some
43:26
parts because I will Adit as a viewer cuz I'm not a Star Wars like Fanatic in the sense like I wasn't heartbroken I didn't upset me it confused me a little
43:33
bit there were times in the film I will admit that I oh okay I have no idea where this is going like maybe Ray will
43:39
go to the dark side maybe kylo Ren will go to the light side because it kills so there was parts of me that wondering
43:44
what was going to happen I will say the casino or the free of those Wild Horses sequence that was horrible of course
43:49
that was the worst part of the whole film did I say snope earlier you said snoke thank you for correcting me snoke
43:55
was the guy's name right yeah who's snope snop yeah snopes is that website is it snopes is the website that's how
44:01
unmemorable this character became I don't even remember the guy's freaking name and he was supposed to be this huge badass villain with a backstory instead
44:08
they had to bring what's his name the Emperor Palpatine back yeah Emperor Palpatine back in episode 9 because Ryan
44:15
it up so bad yes the casino scene was the worst lot of social justice Warrior [ __ ] going on where were worried
44:21
about animal cruelty meanwhile entire planets are being blown up and that animal's getting whipped like can we put
44:27
this in perspective what are we doing also they destroyed Finn's character so now we don't give a [ __ ] about Finn
44:32
because he was just gonna leave anyway this Rose character who is just you
44:38
can't even argue the fact that she's the worst I'd rather have 17 Jar Jar Binks in a movie than one rose so what they do
44:45
is they go on this Crusade that does nothing for the plot it doesn't change anything that happens in the movie
44:51
there's no reason for it and it's like most of the movie is there stupid going to the casino and saving the day because
44:57
all these wealthy people who sell arms it was trying to make all these political points which was really
45:02
frustrating to me and the plot itself if you just look at the overall plot it's the worst Star Wars movie by far because
45:10
the plot is we're chasing a spaceship and so one spaceship is chasing another
45:16
spaceship and they only have so much fuel but they can't get any closer for some reason so they have to chase each
45:21
other in slow motion over a two and a half hour film it's like dude this is like a episode of Star Trek from the 60s
45:27
what are we talking about we're just chasing a spaceship for two and a half hours and the person on the uh good guys
45:34
can't explain what the plan is to anybody that didn't make any sense at all she's like you just got to trust me
45:39
you just got to trust me yeah but what's the plan you just got to trust me yeah can you just tell me the plan I'm on your side she wouldn't do it so then of
45:46
course he has to go out and try to figure out how they're gonna you know get fix this the whole thing was so stupid so poorly written Ryan Johnson
45:53
had an agenda he destroyed the whole post sequel or you know what whatever
45:58
you call the seven eight n yeah he kind of destroyed the whole thing because now I don't care about the characters anymore he's ruined what we're trying to
46:06
accomplish Luke Skywalker is an [ __ ] it was so poorly done so poorly done as
46:12
always your rants are amazing I I can't top that so we'll move on the rise of Skywalker the last one JJ is back in the
46:19
helm to try to write this ship before it comes into Port we know this is the end the finale of the Skywalker Sega
46:27
here's the thing it actually made less than Jedi last Last Jedi it made $1.1
46:33
billion okay I mean that might change over time we'll see we'll see what happens if they continue to reboot it
46:40
and stuff they did two things in this movie JJ did to let the fans know that we up and we're fixing them right the
46:47
first one was Luke Skywalker almost looks into the camera and says I was wrong which is hilarious because he's
46:54
pretty much saying we're sorry that Ryan this character up we're bringing him back we apologize Luke Skywalker says I
47:01
was wrong like okay let's just throw out everything that happened which was based all around him in episode eight great
47:07
the second thing was Rose is gonna go out on the mission with them F like rose you gonna come she goes I have to stay
47:13
back and do computer programming and it's like okay sounds good see I was like yes thank you they jar jar BST
47:20
thros they made up for Luke Skywalker which were very important things to do
47:25
to bring Star Wars fans back into the fold whatever JJs had a clean up and he had a lot of work to do I think he did a
47:31
very good job of bringing it back to what should have been this whole series
47:37
the trilogy it should have been more like episode seven than what episode 8
47:43
tried to steer everything away from so he fixed it to the best that he could my biggest complaint and I know they just
47:49
can't do this I don't know why they can't but my biggest complaint is we knew that kylo would redeem himself but
47:55
I didn't necessarily want him to and and I I kind of wish they would be brave enough to let Ray go to the dark side if
48:00
they're brave enough to have her be the female lead be brave enough to make a female go bad why is it that she
48:06
couldn't go bad why couldn't kylo be redeemed and she goes to the dark side so I thought that's where last night I was going to go that they would flip on
48:13
us is there a reason why they just won't be brave enough to say that one character just won't be redeemed because
48:18
they just did the Darth Vader thing again so I don't know why they couldn't just say you might know this better than I do I heard that they had a lot of
48:24
problems with the ending of that movie and that they changed the script a few times and had to go back and re-shoot it
48:30
a few times I think they rushed the movie out because they had to hit some deadline they probably tested it with
48:35
audiences and audiences just want the easy the bad guy redeems himself and the
48:42
hero saves the day and everything's good at the end because yeah it was like a cop out the way that the whole thing
48:48
ended it was too perfect the emperor has all these Star Destroyers he's got
48:54
thousands of Star Destroyers just stashed away on a planet this is insane so you have all these Star Destroyers
49:00
and then for some reason because of the formation they're in they're not allowed to shoot at you what's the point of
49:05
having Star Destroyers they're just sitting there that it was cool looking it was neat but there were some flaws
49:11
with the plot in this one it was a little weird it's that classic uh you know when when the main villain dies
49:16
nothing else works like everything's connected like everything somehow is connected to his ability in the force so
49:22
okay the star shorts crumble and collapse it's a classic magical evil force you take care of the main bad guy
49:28
everything that's under his control collapses Lord of the Rings did it you know all these big movies do it yeah right their space for should have
49:34
destroyed the Rebellion force that came in yes easily it shouldn't have even been a
49:40
contest but that's the whole thing it's The Underdogs and The Underdogs winning and that's what we loved about the
49:46
original Star Wars movie was that these were just a ragtag group of rebels who decided that they didn't care for uh
49:53
dictatorship Governor Cuomo you're next so they decided to fight
49:59
against it and we uh victorious in that but yeah this movie was overall really
50:04
good super fast-paced tons of [ __ ] happening almost every single scene if
50:09
it was an original Star Wars movie that would have been the main scene in the movie right almost every scene was like a crazy like whoa that just said whoa
50:16
that just said whoa the odds of all these things happening for the Rebellion like they never should have pulled any
50:22
of these things off every single thing was like a million to one shot and they just kept doing do it over and over and over again it would have been
50:29
interesting had they let aons just do the whole trilogy yes it would not interesting it would have been better
50:34
much better right Abrams obviously had a better vision for this and understood not only what Star Wars fans want but
50:42
what this should have become based on that original trilogy and I I was always excited you talked about being excited
50:47
for the prequels and the Clone Wars I was always excited about 789 seeing what happens with Luke and Leia and Han and
50:55
what happens to these characters as they get older and now there's a new group who have to come in one of the things
51:00
that they up in this series is they never really explained how after they took down the the Empire all of a sudden
51:06
there's a new thing that's even bigger it's like well then what are we doing if destroying Darth Vader and the Death
51:12
Star and the emperor isn't enough to take care of the evil in the universe well then maybe evil just just always
51:18
going to exist and we should just try to live with it just trying to figure out our own way right I I agree I agree
51:24
they're doing another star warss s it's coming it's coming well they're going to introduce all new characters right it's
51:30
not going to be any part of this anymore yeah okay so what we're going to do we're going to just quickly say what you
51:36
think and what I think is the worst of each of the trilogies again in order of release and then what is the worst one
51:42
overall I think we I think we've already kind of hinted at a couple here and there but maybe our choices will surprise one or the other of the
51:48
original trilogy so how I'm basing this on this might throw people off I'm not
51:53
basing this on artistic quality or anything like that what it meant to people or what started the whole thing
51:58
but I'm basing this on if I had the three in front of me which one would I put in last like which one would I want to put in last to
52:05
watch I think for the sake of having fun A New Hope though it's the original OG
52:10
and it introduces all the characters I think if I just want to watch a fun film I think Return of the Jedi is more fun to watch than a new hope so I'm basing
52:16
this kind of and the Star Wars movies to me are about fun you know are they fun or not not about artistic quality or
52:22
acting or even anything else so at the end of the day I think a new hope is the least fun one to watch for me all right
52:30
I could see that I could I could make that argument as well I do have the d special editioned versions of the movies
52:38
somebody came in and they created widescreen HD versions of the movies taking out all the crap that Lucas put
52:46
in to ruin the movies like The CGI job of the Hut and all that kind of crap and
52:51
I was able to get all three the only two I grabbed were episodes four and five so for me Return of the Jedi is the worst
52:58
of the original I was leaning towards that but it's it's just no you made a good point okay appreciate your rationale and I agree with you that's
53:06
the slowest of the movies and it's probably Return of the Jedi is better in
53:11
a lot of ways yep I understand all right so now the prequels which one of the three for you obviously Phantom Menace
53:18
and it's not even close Phantom Menace is a hot pile of [ __ ] agreed I think it
53:25
we talked about Tatooine we didn't talk about jar jar Banks which is just hot garbage and there's so much just
53:31
dialogue everything in that movie is the opposite of a Star Wars movie they're just trying to explain what's going on
53:37
with politics and it's like oh my God I don't care yeah and I also like how
53:42
George Lucas was racially sensitive with all of his characters as well
53:48
yeah all right lastly for the newest Trilogy I think we might we might differ on this what is your least favorite
53:55
you're gonna are you kidding me come on they can't you can't say all
54:03
right I mean you know what my answer is go ahead let's hear your rationale again I'm not trying to be a hot take it's just I actually quite enjoy Last Jedi I
54:10
really do wow yeah I really quite do it actually makes me feel the most emotional of the three maybe because
54:16
it's so different maybe because it's angering I'll give you that that's an emotion right anger I think it's because
54:23
my my my experience going to the film I heard all the terrible reviews so I I went in this with completely this movie
54:30
is horrible but I've seen every Star Wars movie in the theater I couldn't break tradition despite what people were saying I didn't know why they're saying
54:36
what they're saying so I went in like oh this movie's going to suck but the moment Luke threw that lightsaber over his shoulder I was like what is going on
54:43
here I guess I was more entertained by the idea of how chaotic it was but I actually quite enjoyed it though it it
54:49
wasn't a perfect film so I think the worst for me unfortunately is Rise of
54:55
Skywalker okay I'm gonna go ahead and say it's expectations so you even just said it
55:00
you heard it was a bad movie you went in there and that's why I said that about solo if that's not a good movie but I
55:06
heard it was a bad movie and so when I watched I was like it's not that bad it was fun I didn't know going into Last Jedi anything I think I went opening I
55:14
was so blown away because I was so excited they buil up these characters and they rebooted the series and then he
55:20
undid everything interesting yeah a Star Wars fan I was very depressed and I knew
55:25
I was going to go go see the final episode to see what J.J ABS was going to do but now I have low expectations
55:33
because now I don't care about these characters anymore so while I enjoyed it
55:38
it's not as if I was like oh my gosh I need Ray to come through like like at this point like whatever Finn's a piece
55:44
of [ __ ] I don't care about po Ray can go eat a dick so yeah it definitely changed how I felt about the final Trilogy I
55:51
think I'm going off first time viewing experience for sure because last year the reason why of all the films of the last three it
55:58
was the one that kept me wondering I actually didn't know where we're going so as a movie goer as a movie goer I was
56:04
like oh actually I'm legitimately wondering what's going to happen next whereas with rise the Skywalker I was like like we talked about nothing Brave
56:11
happened and so maybe I appreciate a little bit of being being a little bit Brave a little bit Cavalier with the franchise it actually excited me a
56:17
little bit even if it wasn't executed the way people wanted it to the fact that I left wondering like or left
56:22
thinking I had no idea that was going to happen as a Star Wars watch her for all these years it was the first time I left
56:28
thinking that was different all right this is your show and I hate to do this but I'm going to prove you wrong okay we
56:34
talked about how stupid it is that the force has new powers every single movie sure this one is the worst one of that
56:41
for some reason Luke is able to transport himself he's actually a hologram he's like Tupac Luke he's able
56:48
to transport himself by levitating on his planet and he fights the bad guys and they can't kill him but he can kill
56:54
them and then because he does that he dies which is what happens when you do that for like all of this was just brand
57:00
new [ __ ] that they just made up it was amazing and it was so stupid that
57:05
was and you want to talk about not knowing what's gonna happen next you're right because it was so convoluted also
57:10
that was the movie where Princess Leia became Superman how do you overlook that [ __ ] well you don't out in space a human
57:19
being does not survive in outer space I know there's a lot of problems with science when it comes to Star Wars but
57:24
just to survive in outer space and then she turns into Superman puts her arms out and flies into a spaceship like holy
57:30
[ __ ] that's stupid as soon as that scene happen I'm like oh this movie is boners I don't know who greenlit this no you're
57:37
everything you're saying is correct everything you're saying is correct but it didn't it but it didn't elicit that
57:42
emotional respon to me it was like okay here we go we are it's a Monty Python Star Wars here we go what do we got
57:48
what's yeah I guess I just enjoyed the chaos that it was my fandom of the films is such that I just I wasn't emotionally
57:54
affected by it but I guess I was a little bit excited that it was so different all right so overall I guess we probably both agree on the overall
58:01
the worst Star Wars film for me the not because we only agreed on one so far that's true actually yeah so for me the
58:08
worst one of all three franchises is the fandom Menace totally agree The Phantom
58:14
Menace all it had to do was be mediocre and Star Wars would have continued to
58:19
thrive it almost destroyed Star Wars it got really close to ruining Star Wars
58:25
yeah and it is is a terrible movie for many more reasons than we've even talked
58:30
about right of course it's things that everyone knows anyways that's the thing everyone knows the reasons but yeah we
58:35
don't often with my guest Hol agree with the pcks but I think this one was a pretty obvious overall it's the no-brainer though holy [ __ ] if only
58:42
Lucas first of all he shouldn't have written and directed it but if only he had waited for CGI to get better that
58:48
was one of the big problems you have like these all everything is a cartoon in this movie and it looks so terrible
58:54
and all you needed was another like 10 years or so and it would have looked amazing but in his Mind's Eye in ours in
59:00
1999 he that's what he was waiting for he felt it was that that was the time to do it that's what he said where I've now
59:05
waited till CGI can do what I want to do so in his Mind's Eye he thought this is as good as it gets her 2 looked better
59:11
than that movie and how what year did that come out 9191 yeah that's
59:18
crazy all right well that is that's it so thank you so much Carl for coming on the show it really was a pleasure it was
59:24
an honor thank you for dirting the show too uh overall how did it go what's some other uh pointers you can give me this
59:30
is your job so you got any pointers for me yeah not enough drops what are you doing man you gotta have a soundboard
59:37
and start hitting something no I'm just kidding no it's funny I thought about that but no the thing about drops I've
59:43
listened to some podcasts that tried to attempt it it's a talent within itself because you can't just make sound
59:48
effects for sound effects sake it doesn't work I've heard it on podcast where it doesn't work I will say your name drop one is one of my favorite ones
59:54
so thank you for using that on me that was actually quite funny welome you know rather than ask me my opinion I think that we should ask Bonnie McFarland what
1:00:01
she thinks about it it's boring as [ __ ] well she might not be a Star Wars fan
1:00:06
though so true who knows that's true thank you I've enjoyed it right I enjoy bitching and moaning about Star Wars
1:00:12
because I've spent so many hours of my life watching these films and being
1:00:17
outraged by the ones that suck and entertained by the ones that are good so thank you for having me on so we can do
1:00:23
this today plug your own show in any projects you want uh to the listeners of my show where they can find want these
1:00:28
podcasts you can find in any of your favorite podcasting apps or you can go to who are these.com and that's where
1:00:36
you can find the show but also links to our patreon our YouTube our subreddit our Discord server Twitter all the
1:00:43
places where people are talking about who are these podcasts also I host a show called the creep off the creep off
1:00:51
is a true crime podcast about creeps by creeps and four creeps and basically
1:00:58
it's a contest show where the listeners are involved Vinnie Paulino and I each bring a creep every week that we present
1:01:05
as the creepiest creep and then the listeners based on our arguments get to decide go to our website and vote we
1:01:12
keep score and then when you lose you have to spin a wheel of consequences and it's a lot of fun there's a lot more uh
1:01:19
interaction with the audience on that one so check out the creep off.com and who are these.com I wanted to ask that
1:01:26
thank you Carl that's great thank you and I wanted to ask before you leave it's amazing you have a Discord Channel
1:01:31
and a Reddit Channel which you did not create either of those things correct correct yep so you had fans do that for
1:01:37
you and those this huge activity what's the overall feeling that this community has been created around something that
1:01:43
you've created no it's it's amazing growing up an OPI and Anthony fan and being a part of that Reddit I was more
1:01:49
of a lurker than someone who participated but the shows that I liked always had communities like that and
1:01:55
people and I'd love to like listen to an episode and think like what do other people think about this and be able to go in and see the conversation that's
1:02:02
going on around it and see if they agree with me that part of it is amazing because now I can do a show and get
1:02:07
instant feedback and see like we just did a show a couple weeks ago that was very controversial because of the guest
1:02:13
host that I had on yes and just to see Discord and Reddit and Twitter blow up
1:02:20
over this and all the controversy that has sparked makes it a lot of fun all right I enjoy well hopefully I don't get
1:02:25
get torn up too badly in the Reddit or the Discord cuz I am going to post the show here but it's
1:02:31
been a real uh real pleasure Carl to meet you and to have you on the show right I'll tell you this if you do get
1:02:36
torn up it's because they actually give a [ __ ] oh okay so it's not the worst
1:02:41
thing when they ignore you that's really the worst thing that could happen well it's part for the course either way it's
1:02:47
win-win I guess that's right all right thank you so much Carl I hope to talk to you again thanks for having me Ryan you
